About the Opportunity
The Northeastern University's Law Library supports the research and educational needs of the School of Law community. With a comprehensive collection of legal resources, the library provides expert reference services, innovative research support, and a collaborative environment for students, faculty, and scholars. It is a hub for legal research, instruction, and academic collaboration.
The Northeastern University's Law Library Internship is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and learn about a specialized academic librarianship. Interns engage in all law library functions, including reference services, teaching support, and collection maintenance.
We are looking to hire two interns to work 20 hours per week each. Business hours are scheduled between 8:00/8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, with preference for half or whole day shifts.
Responsibilities:
Library Operations Support - 40%
- Providing reference and circulation staffing at the InfoDesk or online.
- Supporting librarians with faculty research needs.
- Performing administrative duties and assisting with various tasks as needed across multiple library functions.
- Cite-checking legal publications (training provided)
- Supporting librarians in locating, retrieving, and photocopying material
Research and Teaching Assistance - 40%
- Providing professional reference service to the library's varied users - including faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
- Acting as a teaching assistant for research courses, including creating/testing research exercises, leading class discussions, and assisting with grading.
Collection Management and Maintenance - 20%
- Preparing and updating print and electronic research guides and other library publications.
- Assisting with collection development, weeding projects, and contributing to database licensing discussions.
Qualifications:
This is an in-person role, and all interns must adhere to Northeastern University's COVID-19 guidelines. Please note that these positions are not benefits-eligible.
Required Qualifications:
Current enrollment in an ALA-accredited graduate level library program(including starting this Fall)
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous library or law library reference experience is preferred, but not necessary; we are happy to train the right candidates
